HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) -- A prosecutor says a Cincinnati man has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in his ex-girlfriend's fatal shooting and will spend his life in prison.
Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser (MOH'-zur) says 28-year-old Nicolas Delaney pleaded guilty Thursday to fatally shooting 24-year-old Samantha Decker. Gmoser says the plea agreement included a sentence of life in prison without parole.
Delaney's attorney didn't immediately return a call for comment.
Authorities say Delaney fatally shot Decker on Oct. 31 at her Fairfield apartment. Their 3-year-old son was not in the home at the time.
Gmoser says the decision not to seek the death penalty came after discussions with Decker's family. He says they knew a potential death penalty could result in years of appeals and were satisfied with the life sentence.
