CLEVELAND (AP) -- Federal authorities are accusing a former northeast Ohio corrections officer of assaulting an inmate.
U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach in Cleveland announced Friday that 47-year-old Marlon Taylor, of Vermilion, has been charged for allegedly depriving an unidentified inmate from the right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment.
Prosecutors allege Taylor on July 2012 repeatedly struck and injured the inmate at the Lorain County Jail.
Taylor's attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.
Dettelbach's office says conviction carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
