ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The second semifinal of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament was played with both shot clocks atop the baskets turned off.
One of the clocks has shorted out the last two days. There was a brief delay in the opening minute of a quarterfinal game between Illinois State and Missouri State on Friday.
Tournament officials compensated for the problem Saturday by adding the countdown number in bright red to ribbon boards just below the upper bowl of the Scottrade Center, making room by shifting advertisements.
Second-seeded Indiana State and Southern Illinois, the sixth seed, were at center court for the opening tip-off when the clock at one end went blank. After initial repair attempts failed, the decision was made to turn off the functioning shot clock.
The game was delayed again with 16:45 to go in the half while officials checked a play against the number on the ribbon board.
