DORTMUND, Germany (AP) -- Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender has been ruled out for around ten weeks with a groin injury.
The Bundesliga club says the extent of the injury was revealed in an examination Sunday by team doctor Markus Braun.
Bender needs to avoid any sporting exertion for six weeks and Braun predicts a subsequent four-week recuperation period.
Dortmund has 12 games left in the Bundesliga.
Bender joins fellow midfielders Ilkay Gundogan and Jakub Blaszczykowski, as well as defender Neven Subotic on the club's long-term injury list.
Striker Robert Lewandowski missed Sunday's training session due to a cold, though is expected to have recovered for Tuesday's Champions League round-of-16 first leg tie at Zenit St. Petersburg.
Defender Mats Hummels remains doubtful against Zenit with a right-foot strain.
