SOCHI, Russia (AP) -- J.R. Celski fell on his own in 500-meter short track, but the American advanced to the semifinals after another skater was disqualified.
Celski wiped out in a turn with two laps to go Friday night after avoiding trouble when Japanese skater Satoshi Sakashita earlier went down in front of him.
The judges disqualified Park Se-yeong of South Korea for impeding, and advanced Celski and Sakashita to the semis later in the evening. Celski, of Federal Way, Wash., overcame a false start in his heat, won by Han Tianyu of China.
Viktor Ahn of Russia easily won his heat, keeping alive his bid to win the only Olympic short race that has eluded him in his career.
