STEVENAGE, England (AP) -- Everton says Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo may have broken his left leg in an FA Cup match against Stevenage, potentially ruling him out of the World Cup in Brazil.

The Premier League side says on its Twitter account that the left-sided Oviedo was taken to hospital following the injury, which occurred in the 14th minute of the fourth-round match on Saturday.

Everton's players looked distraught as they approached Oviedo while he lay injured on the ground. He was carried off on a stretcher to applause from all sides of the ground.

Everton tweeted "update on Bryan -- he's been taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg."

Oviedo is one of the top players for Costa Rica, which plays Uruguay, Italy and England in Group D in the World Cup.
