CATANIA, Sicily (AP) -- Catania has fired Luigi De Canio and rehired Rolando Maran, who left the club only three months ago.
The Sicilian club announced the rehiring of Maran on Thursday, shortly after confirming the dismissal of De Canio.
De Canio managed only two wins in 12 matches in charge, culminating in Wednesday's 4-1 Italian Cup loss to Siena.
Last season, Maran guided Catania to eighth place, its best finish in Serie A, one spot ahead of Inter Milan. But he was fired in October after Catania won only one of its opening eight Serie A matches.
Catania is last in the Serie A, four points from safety.
It is the ninth coaching change in Serie A this season and the third this week.
