MADRID (AP) -- Neymar left Barcelona's 2-0 victory at Getafe on Thursday with a right ankle injury that is expected to see the forward sidelined for an unknown period of time.
The Brazil striker turned the ankle attempting to extend his dribble to the goal-line in the 22nd minute, falling under his own weight and going over his limb. There was no contact with any Getafe player.
Barcelona said Neymar tore tendons in the ankle, and further scans to judge the seriousness of the injury would be taken on Friday.
Neymar, in obvious pain, immediately called for Barcelona's medical staff, who helped him to the locker room after taping up his ankle. Alexis Sanchez replaced Neymar.
"Thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been," coach Gerardo Martino said. "He'll be sidelined for a time but everyone should stay cool, he's alright. I don't think it will sideline him too long."
Barcelona reached the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey by an aggregate score of 6-0.
