KEARNS, Utah (AP) -- Chris Creveling edged J.R. Celski by less than half a skate blade to win the first 1,000 meters final at the U.S. Olympic short track speedskating trials, handing Celski his first loss of the competition.
Creveling was timed in 1 minute, 25.252 seconds on Sunday. Celski had won the time trials, the 500 and the 1,500 during the first three days at the Utah Olympic Oval. He finished just under two-hundredths of a second behind Creveling in the first of two 1,000 finals on the last day.
Celski has already clinched two events for the Sochi Olympics.
Jessica Smith won the first women's 1,000 final in 1:30.331 and Emily Scott was second at 1:30.762. Both women have already secured spots on the U.S. team.
The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of the second 1,000 were later Sunday.
