COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) -- In search of his second straight win on the halfpipe, Greg Bretz led all riders in qualifying Wednesday at the U.S. Grand Prix.

Bretz, who won the Dew Tour last week, scored 94 points in his preliminary run, 0.25 better than Ben Ferguson and Arthur Longo of France.

Halfpipe finals are set for Saturday in this, the season's second of five selection events for the U.S. Olympic team. Last week's Dew Tour was the first.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White took the day off, as he rests his sore left ankle to prepare for qualifying in Thursday's slopestyle contest.

Riding on the bad ankle, White finished second at the Dew Tour, then pulled out of slopestyle to get ready for this week.
