PARIS (AP) -- Rennes dominated from start to finish as it strolled to a 2-0 win at Bastia in the French league on Sunday.
Rennes took the lead in the 34th minute when Julien Feret got past Julian Palmieri and crossed to the far post for Romain Alessandrini to slot home.
The visitors doubled their lead just after the hour mark when Mevlut Erding acrobatically fired home Jean II Makoun's cross past Mickael Landreau, who didn't move.
Bastia only had one shot on goal all game but was awarded a penalty four minutes from time after Yann M'Vila handled in the area.
However, Anthony Modeste slipped slightly as he hit the spot kick and fired it wide.
Rennes could have extended its lead seconds later as Feret saw an effort crash off the right upright.
Rennes is level on points with fourth-place Nice, which beat Lille 1-0 thanks to a late goal from teenage star Neal Maupay.
The 16-year-old Maupay scored his third goal of the season -- in all competitions -- five minutes from time to hand Nice all three points.
Lille has won only two of its past eight league games.
