MADRID (AP) -- Spanish club Sevilla says it has fired coach Jose Miguel "Michel" Gonzalez and replaced him with Unai Emery.
The club said Monday that Michel was "dismissed due to a poor run of results," with the club in 12th place in the Spanish league following a 2-0 loss to Valencia on Saturday.
It said Emery signed a deal to coach the team until June 2014. Emery last coached Russian team Spartak Moscow, but was fired in November after a 5-1 loss in the league to Dinamo Moscow.
Michel joined Sevilla in February last year.
