Students in the Ellsworth Hill classes of Mrs. Kelly Heller, Mrs. Denise Lukingbeal, Mrs. Darby Sankey, Mrs. Jessica Thies, and Mrs. Cherie Uber held a pancake breakfast for an Economics unit of study.
Students dressed up for the occasion and enjoyed homemade chocolate chip or blueberry pancakes, served with real whipped cream.
Jennifer Filomena, principal of Ellsworth Hill, was a special guest at the breakfast. Aide Darby Sankey made all the specialty pancakes.
Ellsworth Hill teachers, including Jo Pergola, a retired Evamere teacher, helped serve breakfast.
The opportunity to meet new friends and practice conversation skills were part of the fun event. Conversation starters were written by the students on the backs of flowers and placed in the center of each group of four students. The students created their own place-cards.
As a way to earn money for the breakfast and a raffle basket, students completed family chores or did something nice for someone other than themselves. The Family Fun Summer Basket Raffle raised money for Hudson Community First. This was the second year in a row for this event with all profits going to Hudson Community First.
The students calculated their money spent, money borrowed, and profits using their math strategies. With the profit this year, students were able to donate $400 to Hudson Community First!
The Ellsworth second-graders were definitely full of pancakes and happy that the money they raised will go toward supporting the organization that supports them in so many ways.
