Suzanne Theisen to Receive Communications and Leadership Award

Debate coacher mentored 394 State Qualifiers, 72 state alternates and 34 national qualifiers and, is a quad diamond recipient from the National Forensic League.  Stow Munroe Falls High School named as a school of excellence in debate.

Canton, Oh., May 15, 2014.  Toastmasters of Northeastern Ohio (District 10 of Toastmasters International) will present the Community and Leadership Award to Suzanne Theisen.  The award will be will presented on May 17. 2014, at Spring Conference at the Lorain County Community College, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria.   She is receiving the award for exemplary work with the Stow Munroe Falls High School Speech and Debate Team.

The Community and Leadership Award is given to those whose service increases communications and leadership skills in their community.  For over 24 years she has served as the head coach to the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Speech & Debate Team.  In 1990 she started with 12 debaters and recently has had as many as 78 students.   Sue is one of only a handful of coaches to have captured State Championships in all three debate disciplines (Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum), and has had 5 runner ups in both debate and individual speech and interpretation events. As a coach, Sue chaired the Akron District for 10 years, all the while serving 6 years on the Ohio High School Speech League State Executive Committee.

Sue has racked up an astounding 394 State Qualifiers, 72 state alternates and 34 national qualifiers, and is a quad diamond recipient in the National Forensic League. Her team also placed in the top ten debate schools at the National Tournament in 2013, naming Stow Munroe Falls High School as a school of excellence in debate.

In addition to her forensics accomplishments, Sue has been recognized as an outstanding educator. She is a Nationally Board Certified teacher, has won Stow Munroe Falls High School  Educator of the Year, been nominated as an Exempla Teacher (1994) and nominated again in 2013.  She is a published author of Why Workshop?  Sue is a  wife, mother, grandmother, and a “surrogate mother” to an entire generation of speech and debate students.
